Convenience – Learning from anywhere and at anytime , at the click of a button; It goes without saying that a lot of time is spent on instructor led training and as much as possible , organisations should optimise on learning time. E learning provides the flexibility which requires no travel time . Approximately 80% of the professional workforce uses computers on the job. Technical obstacles, such as access, standards, infrastructure, and bandwidth, will not be an issue in a few years time. The growth of the World Wide Web, high-capacity corporate networks, and high-speed desktop computers will make learning available to people 24 hours a day, seven days a week around the globe. This will enable businesses to distribute training and critical information to multiple locations easily and conveniently. Employees can then access training when it is convenient for them, at home or in the office.

Substantial cost savings due to elimination of travel expenses.
When delivered through technology based solutions, training is less expensive per end user due to scalable distribution and the elimination of high salaries for trainers and consultants. The biggest benefit of eLearning, however, is that it eliminates the expense and inconvenience of getting the instructor and students in the same place. According to research, corporations save between 50-70% when replacing instructor-led training with electronic content delivery. Opting for eLearning also means that courses can be prepared into shorter sessions and spread out over several days or weeks so that the business would not lose an employee for entire days at a time. Workers can also improve productivity and use their own time more efficiently, as they no longer need to travel or fight rush-hour traffic to get to a class.
Just-in-time access to timely information.
Web-based products allow instructors to update lessons and materials across the entire network instantly. This keeps content fresh and consistent and gives students immediate access to the most current data. Information can be retrieved just before it is required, rather than being learned once in a classroom and subsequently forgotten. Research has shown that technology-based training has proven to have a 50 “60%” better consistency of learning than traditional classroom learning.
Improved collaboration and interactivity among students.
In times when small instructor-led classes tend to be the exception, electronic learning solutions can offer more collaboration and interaction with experts and peers as well as a higher success rate than the live alternative. Teaching and communication techniques which create an interactive online environment include case studies, story-telling, demonstrations, role-playing, simulations, streamed videos, online references, personalized coaching and mentoring, discussion groups, project teams, chat rooms, e-mail, bulletin boards, tips, tutorials, FAQs, and wizards.
Distance education can be more stimulating and encourage more critical reasoning than a traditional large instructor-led class because it allows the kind of interaction that takes place most fully in small group settings. Studies have shown that students who take online courses are typically drawn into the subject matter of the class more deeply than in a traditional course because of the discussions they get involved in. This engagement is further facilitated by the fact that instructors do not monopolize attention in an online environment. Another study found that online students had more peer contact with others in the class, enjoyed it more, spent more time on class work, understood the material better, and performed, on average, 20% better than students who were taught in the traditional classroom.
Online training is less intimidating than instructor-led courses.
Students taking an online course enter a risk-free environment in which they can try new things and make mistakes without exposing themselves. This characteristic is particularly valuable when trying to learn soft skills, such as leadership and decision making. A good learning program shows the consequences of students’ actions and where/why they went wrong. After a failure, students can go back and try again. This type of learning experience eliminates the embarrassment of failure in front of a group.

[-] Types of e-learning
Asynchronous E-Learning and Synchronous E-Learning
The modern day e-learning environment can be divided into two categories:
Synchronous and Asynchronous
Synchronous e-learning involves online studies through chat and videoconferencing. This kind of learning tool is real-time. It is like a virtual classroom which allows students to ask, and teachers to answer questions instantly, through instant messaging, which is why it is called synchronous. Rather than taking lessons alone, students associating themselves with synchronous e-learning software or online courses can easily interact with fellow students and their teachers during the course.
On the other hand, Asynchronous learning can be carried out even while the student is offline. Asynchronous e-learning involves coursework delivered via web, email and message boards that are then posted on online forums. In such cases, students ideally complete the course at their own pace, by using the internet merely as a support tool rather than volunteering exclusively for an e-learning software or online interactive classes.
Blended learning
Putting together two or more forms of learning is called blended learning. It simply means combining different methods of learning including non e-learning ones. So a typical blend might be some preparatory e-learning online, then a workshop, followed up with a virtual classroom session, some online self study and then an assessment, over several weeks.
[+] Learning capacities
[-] Learning capacities
There are three different types of learners: visual learners , auditory learners , and kinesthetic learners . Our online programmes take into account that employees fall under one of these categories and provide materials and activities designed for different learning preferences.
Training Visual Learners ,
Visual learners do best when presented with vibrant and image-rich stimuli. They are also good with words, so they easily understand written documents and textbooks. However, the document’s formatting also helps keep their attention. Cedar Point has several ways to appeal to visual learners: PowerPoint Documents – Visual learners are attracted to colorful documents with a variety of fonts and formatting, including images. Using PowerPoint to make creative, visual documents will help visual learners focus. And with Cedar Point, the trainee doesn’t even have to download PowerPoint to his or her personal computer.
Image Galleries – A picture says a thousand words, and Cedar Point uses a huge gallery of course specific images in the highly interactive courses on offer.
Videos – Facilitators also make use of video feeds to their course material, allowing students to watch the files from their home computers or mobile apps. Cedar Point lets companies choose from different internet speeds to make sure their videos are accessible to different computers.
Training Auditory Learners:-
Auditory learners do best when presented with spoken directions. They tend to be more communicative than learners with other preferences. In a traditional classroom, they do best when they record lectures, and they perform best when they can provide answers orally (rather than in written form).
Cedar Point can help trainers reach auditory learners with different activities:
Audio Files – Training facilitators provide recorded audio course material, rather than providing it in written form. Trainees can listen to the lecture and process it with ease, as auditory learners often have a hard time understanding written instructions.
Group Work – Because auditory learners are fond of communication, they work best in small groups, rather than alone. With Cedar Point, trainers can set up small groups and assign tasks to them. They can communicate with one another with RSS feeds or discussion forums.
Training Kinesthetic Learners:-
Kinesthetic learners do best with hands-on instruction. This makes teaching kinaesthetic learners online a bit more complicated, as they cannot physically manipulate the material. However, providing an interactive online classroom environment can help trainers keep the trainees’ attention.
Trainers make use of many of Cedar Point’ teaching techniques to reach kinesthetic learners. Trainning programmes make use of different assessment techniques such as multiple-choice questions, fill in the blanks, and “drag and drop” words or images to graphs.
Kinesthetic learners can physically perform the activities, even if they don’t have the software on their home computers.
Polls and Surveys – Trainees can interact with one another through polls or surveys, which Cedar Point provides to all users. Learners simply answer the questions, and a graph or chart pops up for them to see. These tools help kinesthetic learners by providing physical stimulation during the training process.
Animations – When teaching a technical skill, such as how to put together a machine, graphics help kinesthetic learners.
Cedar Point provides companies with a variety of methods to reach all types of learners in their training sessions. Knowing what activities to include to help all employees, regardless of their learning preferences, will ensure a successful and cost-effective online training session.
